Karen Kain
Karen Alexandria Kain was born March 28,1971 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. At a young age, Karen’s mother put her daughter into ballet because she wanted her daughter to learn proper posture and discipline. At the age of 11 Karen was accepted into The National Ballet School of Canada in Toronto, Ontario. She trained there for 7 years and when she graduated she was hired by The National Ballet of Canada. Kain became their principal dancer at the age of 20 and was eventually known as one of the best ballet dancers in Canada. She made guest appearances for various ballet companies all over the world including London, Paris and Vienna. She had a temporary hiatis from dancing in the late 70’s but resumed her career from 1980-1997. In 1976 she became an Officer of The Order of Canada. In 1998 Karen returned to The National Ballet of Canada as part of the senior management team and in 2005 she was made Artistic Director.
